Geneva Airport is situated completely within Swiss borders and straddles the Swiss – French border, allowing for access from both nations, which adds an interesting aspect to the airport. Geneva Airport was inaugurated on October 11, 1919 with a grass and earth surface, and in 1937 it was upgraded to include its first concrete runway. A new Terminal was established in 1946, now known as Terminal 2. In 1947, the inaugural flight and service to New York had already begun. The first Jet aircraft landed  in Geneva on 17 July 1959. The airport features a concrete runway measuring 3900m, making it the longest in Switzerland and one of the longest in Europe, able to accommodate aircraft of all sizes for landing.
